In Special Education, general and interdisciplinary approaches to research and practice take on an important integrative function, since this is a discipline with a high degree of specialisation. General Special Education engages with anthropological, ethical, philosophical, historical, and profession-theoretic foundations of educational research. The sociology of disability analyses the connections between society and disability, especially with respect to discrimination, labeling and stereotyping, and aims to sensitize pre-service teachers to the diverse fields of work in Special Education.
